St. Joseph Academy Softball Claims Seventh Consecutive South Jersey Championship
The St. Joseph Academy softball team has secured its seventh consecutive South Jersey title, triumphing over Holy Spirit with a commanding 18-0 victory in the championship match held on Friday. This impressive win adds to the Wildcats' legacy in the South Jersey Non-Public B division.
With this latest success, St. Joseph's record now stands at 25-3, showcasing an exceptional postseason performance where they have yet to concede a single run, outscoring their opponents 47-0 during the playoffs. The Wildcats are set to face North Jersey champion DePaul, who holds a record of 19-8, in a highly anticipated rematch of last year's state final. This showdown is scheduled for Wednesday at Ivy Hill Park on the Seton Hall University campus.
Senior Alaina Dorsey, who has committed to Seton Hall, was instrumental in the Wildcats' victory, contributing significantly as the leadoff hitter. Dorsey recorded three hits, scoring three times and driving in three RBIs, while also stealing two bases. Her performance this season has been remarkable, setting a career-high with 45 hits and bringing her overall career total to 155.
St. Joseph's offensive efforts were further bolstered by Kaylin Marshall, who notched two hits, including a home run, and drove in six RBIs. The team collectively achieved 14 hits in the game, scoring eight runs in the first inning and another ten in the third. Teammates Lanie Giovinazzi, Kensie Giovanazzi, Madisyn Powell, and Giselle Pescatore each contributed two hits, with Powell crossing home plate three times.
