St. Joseph Goats Triumph Over Ozark Lunkers 77-38 in Home Opener

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The St. Joseph Goats improved their season record to 2-0 following a commanding 77-38 victory against the Ozark Lunkers in their home opener on Saturday. Both teams entered the game undefeated, with the Goats previously securing a win against the Arkansas Diamonds and the Lunkers overcoming the Eau Claire Axemen.

The match began with a fairly balanced first quarter, where the Lunkers managed to score 12 points, while the Goats held a slight edge with 13. However, the second quarter marked a significant shift in momentum, as the Goats exploded for 37 points, leaving Ozark to add just 12. The Lunkers struggled to regain their footing in the second half, only managing 14 points, while St. Joseph tacked on another 27.

Quarterback Angelo Trujillo led the Goats with an impressive performance, throwing for 454 yards and achieving eight touchdowns, with just one interception. On the opposing side, Lunkers quarterback Tirri Jones recorded 407 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Trujillo's interception was the sole turnover for the Goats, while the Lunkers faced a tough night in that department, committing six turnovers, including two fumbles.

With this victory, the St. Joseph Goats are on a winning streak as they prepare to face the Iowa Woo next Saturday, June 13, at 8 p.m. in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Woo are currently seeking their first win of the season, having lost both of their opening games against the Monroe Greenheads and the Memphis Hound Dogs.
