Stefon Diggs Responds to Commanders Speculation Amid Patriots Reunion Hopes
Stefon Diggs, the talented wide receiver formerly of the New England Patriots, has found himself at the center of trade rumors as fans speculate about his future. After being released by the Patriots earlier this offseason, there is a growing desire among supporters for his return, particularly to enhance their chances of contending for a Super Bowl title.
Last season, Diggs emerged as the Patriots' top receiver, accumulating over 1,000 yards and leading the team in receptions. However, the current roster boasts promising talents like Romeo Doubs and A.J. Brown, making the need for Diggs less pressing than before. Nevertheless, many still believe that reuniting him with the team could create an impressive trio of receivers.
As the NFL season approaches, Diggs remains a free agent, and one team mentioned in connection with him is the Washington Commanders. Given that Diggs hails from Maryland and has deep roots in the area from his high school and college days, a move back home wouldn’t be out of the question. When asked about the possibility of joining the Commanders, Diggs offered a noncommittal response: "Ah (expletive), I don't know, man. I'm open to everything. We'll see."
With Deebo Samuel also a free agent, the Commanders' receiving corps is in flux, especially after drafting Clemson's Antonio Williams in the third round. While Terry McLaurin stands as the team’s leading receiver, there is uncertainty surrounding the rest of the receiving group.
After a strong comeback season following an ACL injury, Diggs has proven to be a valuable player and a leader. While a return to the Patriots would excite fans, he may face limited opportunities there compared to what he could achieve as a potential No. 2 receiver with the Commanders.
