Syracuse Men’s Soccer: Miles Robinson named to Team USA World Cup squad
According to reports over the weekend, Syracuse Orange alum Miles Robinson was named to the squad for the 2026 World Cup being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This will be the Centerback’s first World Cup of his career.
Robinson has had a strong career over the last few years with the US Men’s National Team, collecting 38 caps since making his debut in 2019. In this time, he has scored three goals and been an extremely important part of this Stars and Stripes defense. He joins a talented Centerback group in this roster, including Crystal Palace star Chris Richards, who seems poised to be one of the best players for the US in this tournament, and fellow national team staple Tim Ream.
This will be Robinson’s first time appearing at a World Cup, as he dealt with an unfortunate Achilles injury that kept him out for the 2022 tournament, where the US made the knockout stage. His injury history has also recently affected him, as he suffered another one last month. However, he mentioned in an interview with Sports Illustrated that he was “definitely grateful to be back from injury and feeling strong”, so he should be at 100% around World Cup time.
Robinson has been having a solid season with FC Cincinnati so far, starting every game while he was healthy except one, coming off the bench when he was coming back from injury, and in the most recent match, likely to avoid any further injuries before the World Cup. Cincinnati’s defense, however, has not been the best so far this season, as they have given up the second-most goals in the MLS. Robinson has also recorded a red card this season, getting sent off during FC Cincinnati’s match against CF Montreal.
Miles Robinson played two years for the Orange in 2015 and 2016, where he was one of the best defenders in all of college soccer. In his sophomore season, he was a first team all american, as well as the ACC defensive player of the year. He scored four goals this season as well, good enough for third on the team from the Centerback position. He also garnered international attention while at Syracuse, as he was named to the U-20 US Men’s National Team for the 2016 Four Nations tournament. It will be exciting to see a player whose journey began here at Syracuse play on the world’s biggest stage for our Stars and Stripes.
The USMNT plays their first match of the 2026 World Cup against Paraguay on June 12th at 9pm at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
