Texas Longhorns Clinch Fifth Directors' Cup Under AD Chris Del Conte

The University of Texas Longhorns have once again proven their dominance in college athletics, securing their fifth NACDA Learfield Directors' Cup as the nation’s top athletic department. This achievement comes during the tenure of Athletic Director Chris Del Conte, who has been at the helm since 2017.

The Directors' Cup is awarded annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, recognizing the overall performance of a university's sports teams across both men's and women's competitions. Under Del Conte's leadership, the Longhorns have now claimed this prestigious title five times in the last six years.

The Longhorns clinched the title on Friday evening when their men's outdoor track team finished 26th in the NCAA finals, bringing their total to 1,291.5 points. Although Stanford had a chance to surpass Texas, their potential points were limited due to only two athletes competing, making it unlikely for them to overtake the Longhorns' lead. "This is a done deal. Texas has won their fifth Directors' Cup," stated Brett Wilkinson of Direct_CupDates during an On Texas Football segment.

Key contributions to this victory included national championships in women's softball, men's swimming and diving, and women's rowing. Texas also saw strong finishes in men's tennis (second place) and third-place finishes in women’s basketball, women’s swimming and diving, and women’s beach volleyball. Additionally, women's volleyball and both men's and women's golf teams finished fifth nationally.

Since Del Conte took charge, Texas has amassed an impressive 18 national titles, solidifying its reputation as a powerhouse in collegiate sports. With this latest accolade, the Longhorns have firmly established themselves as a model for athletic departments nationwide.
