The 49ers waived a cornerback they claimed a year ago

In March 2025, the San Francisco 49ers claimed cornerback Tre Tomlinson off waivers from the Los Angeles Rams. A week after the NFL Draft, the 49ers announced they waived Tomlinson, who never stepped foot onto the football field this past season, even in the preseason.

Tomlinson, a sixth-round pick from the 2023 NFL Draft, last saw playing time with the Rams in 2023. At 5’9″, 180 pounds, Tomlinson was always going to face an uphill battle to make an NFL roster.

The 49ers drafted Ephesians Prysock in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Prysock’s dimensions have him towering over Tomlinson, at 6’3″ 3/8 with 33 1/8″ arm length. Even if it’s on special teams, that frame will be more difficult to block.
