These 5 USMNT World Cup players went to high school in PA
If you watch any of the World Cup games this year, you might catch a slightly familiar face ‒ a former Pennsylvania high school standout.
The 26-man USMNT roster was announced on Tuesday, May 26, during a televised broadcast from New York. Manager Mauricio Pochettino picked five players who have ties to Pennsylvanian high school or youth academies.
The U.S. men's national team is making its final preparations as one of the host nations for the 2026 World Cup.
It will be the first time the United States hosts the World Cup since 1994. Mexico and Canada are serving as co-hosts.
The U.S. will play three warm-up games ahead of its World Cup opener against Paraguay on June 12 in Los Angeles.

Winger Christian Pulisic had already played for European powerhouse Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga before attending his high school prom at Hershey High School.
Matt Freese, the current NYCFC goalkeeper, is the likely starter in goal for the Red, White and Blue. Freese was named the Delaware County Player of the year and made all-state and all-league nominations playing at the Episcopal Academy in Newton Square, Pennsylvania.
Centerbacks Mark McKenzie and Auston Trusty played for the YSC Academy, the Philadelphia Union's youth academy in Wayne, Pennslyvania. Trusty also played for Middletown Township High School.
Attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson started his high school career at Shawnee High School (Medford Township, New Jersey) before transferring to YSC Academy.

Goalkeeper Matt Turner played high school at St. Joseph's Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey. Turner did not play soccer until he was 14 years old.
Goalkeeper Chris Brady played at Naperville North High School in Naperville, Illinois. before joining the Chicago Fire youth academy in 2017.
Center back Chris Richards, who was born in Birmingham, Alabama, attended the local Hoover High School as a freshman before transferring to the Lone Star School in Frisco, Texas.
Tim Ream, who is playing in his second World Cup, attended St. Dominic High School in O'Fallon, Missouri, and earned a state title as a senior in 2004.
Centerback Miles Robinson was a two-port athlete at Arlington High School in Arlington, Massachusetts, scoring more than 1,000 points in basketball.
Fullback Antonee Robinson grew up in Liverpool, England, attending the Halewood Academy before choosing to play for the USMNT over England.
Fullback Sergiño Dest's listed high school is Youth Academy of Almere City, in the Netherlands as he was training in Europe.
Alex Freeman, another fullback, went to high school at American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida.
Satchem High School in Lake Grove, New York is where Joe Scally attended school before signing a professional contract at 15. He didn't play prep soccer.
Fullback Max Arfsten attended San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno, California, the earning County Metro League MVP honors in both his junior and senior seasons.
In the midfield, Tyler Adams' listed high school is Roy C. Ketcham High School in Wappingers, New York, but never played in a prep soccer game because he signed a professional contract at 16.
Weston McKennie also had limited prep soccer experience. He attended Liberty High School in Frisco, Texas, online as he was in both the FC Dallas Academy and the U.S. youth national team.
Cristian Roldan was Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2013 playing for El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera, California.
Sebastian Berhalter, whose father has been the USMNT head coach in two different stints, attended Olentangy Orange High School in Lewis Center, Ohio.
Attacking midfielder Tim Weah went to Archbishop McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches, Florida, before heading off to France and joined the Paris Saint-Germain Academy at 14.
Malik Tillman went to high school at LoLothar-Faber-Schule in Stein, Germany. It allowed Tillman to balance education with his soccer career in youth academies.

Like many on the USMNT, Ricardo Pepi focused on soccer training while attending the Texas Virtual Academy online to finish his education.
Haji Wright went pro at 16 to train with the U.S. Soccer U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida.
