Titans' Offensive Line Draws Criticism as New Additions Fall Short
The Tennessee Titans have made significant changes to their roster, bringing in over 30 new players through free agency and the NFL Draft under the leadership of head coach Robert Saleh. Despite these efforts, concerns about the team’s offensive capabilities remain, with critics highlighting the offensive line as a major area of weakness.
This assessment was echoed by The Athletic Football Show, which recently ranked the Titans’ offensive supporting cast at 15th in the AFC, just ahead of the Miami Dolphins. Analysts Robert Mays and Derrick Klassen pointed out that while their critique is largely justified, a particular focus on the offensive line stands out. “There’s so many questions about what Austin Schlottman and Cordell Volson is going to give you at the interior positions,” Klassen stated, emphasizing doubts about the new additions.
Mays added to the conversation, noting the challenges facing the Titans' offensive line, particularly with players like Schlottman and Volson expected to start. “If Kevin Zeitler somehow is in the mix for this team before the season starts, I feel a little bit better about that, but as of right now, I think the offensive line is below average at best, and potentially a severe weakness,” he remarked.
In a bid to support quarterback Cam Ward, the Titans have also introduced new wide receivers, Carnell Tate and Wan'Dale Robinson. Both players are expected to contribute to a quicker passing strategy. Robinson, who stands at five-foot-eight, is known for his speed and agility, while the six-foot-two Tate excels in contested catches. Their early interactions during practices have sparked optimism, though many believe it’s a lot of pressure to place on a rookie like Tate.
With the upcoming season approaching, the Titans face a critical juncture. While the offensive line remains a concern, the team is hoping that their new talent can mitigate some of these issues and enhance their overall performance on the field.
