TSSAA softball state championship game times shift once again because of weather
The final act of weather is having a say in what should be the final day of the TSSAA spring state tournament schedule.
The tournament was supposed to wrap up on Friday, May 22, but has extended into today with the TSSAA softball state championships. The Class 3A and 4A state championship, games, being played at Riverdale High School, have pushed back their start times.
The Class 3A title game between McNairy Central and Alcoa has been pushed to 12:30 p.m. (CT) after originally being schedule for 10 a.m. The 4A championship between Maryville and Stewarts Creek has been moved to 3 p.m. after an original 12:30 start time.
The Class 2A title game (Community vs Marion County) is still scheduled at 12:30 p.m. at Shelbyville Central High. The decision to move the Class 1A title game to 3 p.m. was made May 22. That game will also be played at Shelbyville.
The TSSAA made the call to move the Division I softball championships to May 23 on Thursday, May 21. They were originally going to be played at MTSU but continuous rain that has drenched Middle Tennessee for the past four days have rendered most of the fields in Murfreesboro unplayable, including McKnight Park and Starplex where the softball tournament played the vast majority of their games. Cedar Stone Park in Smyrna was also a site for tournament games.
The Division II-AA championship between Chattanooga Christian and Baylor were moved to Chattanooga after play was suspended at MTSU during the late morning of May 22 with the game tied 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning. That game will resume at 2 p.m., (ET) today, at Frost Stadium.
The baseball state championship games wrapped up on May 22, despite a four to six-hour rain delay. Track state championships in Knoxville and boys soccer tournaments were also affected by poor weather.
