Turner and Carrelle Lead LTC to Victory in First All-Star Track Meet
THROOP – The high school track and field season wrapped up beautifully on a sunny Sunday at the Mid Valley Athletic Complex, where senior athletes showcased their talents in the inaugural all-star meet between the Lackawanna Track Conference (LTC) and the Wyoming Valley Conference (WVC). Among the standout performers were Scranton's Anijha Turner and Robbie Carrelle from Western Wayne, both of whom were awarded the titles of Most Valuable Player for their exceptional performances.
Turner dominated the sprint events, clinching victories in the 100-, 200-, and 400-meter dashes, which propelled the LTC girls to a narrow 57-56 triumph. “It was a really fun meet to participate in,” she remarked, reflecting on the enjoyable experience before transitioning to college athletics.
Carrelle also had an impressive day, winning the 110 hurdles, the 300 hurdles, and the pole vault, and contributing to the LTC boys' 62-47 victory as a member of the 400 relay team. “I am so happy to be a part of this in its first year,” he stated. “It was such a fun time after the whole season. It was a nice, relaxing meet, and everyone was having a good time.” Both athletes will continue their studies and sports careers at East Stroudsburg University.
Apart from Turner and Carrelle, several other athletes were recognized for their outstanding performances. Kaylyn Davis from Lakeland earned the title of girls Track Athlete of the Meet, winning the 300 hurdles and javelin, while also contributing to a relay victory. Taylor Gashi from Wyoming Area was named the girls Field Athlete of the Meet after her wins in the shot put, discus, and triple jump. Kevon Creech from Wilkes-Barre Area was awarded boys Track Athlete of the Meet, and Mountain View's Jacob Ficarro took home boys Field Athlete of the Meet honors.
The event not only celebrated individual achievements but also marked a significant occasion for the participating athletes, bringing together two competitive conferences for a memorable conclusion to the season.
