Two Former Ohio State Golfers Earn Spots in 2026 U.S. Open Championship

Ohio State’s storied golf program, once graced by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, continues to produce top talent, as evidenced by the recent achievement of two alumni qualifying for the 2026 U.S. Open Championship. Neal Shipley and Vaughn Harber will compete in the prestigious tournament scheduled to take place from June 18 to 21 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.

During a rigorous 36-hole qualifying event, both golfers showcased their skills at Springfield Country Club and The Lakes Golf and Country Club. Shipley excelled with impressive rounds of 67 and 65, ultimately finishing at 8-under par to secure his spot in the tournament. Meanwhile, Harber, a rising junior still honing his craft at Ohio State, delivered a commendable performance, shooting 3-under in the morning before carding a 2-under 68. His strong finish forced a playoff, which he won to claim the final qualifying position.

This will mark the first major championship appearance for Harber, while Shipley looks forward to returning to the U.S. Open. Fans of Ohio State will have reason to cheer as they follow these talented golfers in the upcoming tournament.
