UH softball team wins ninth straight game

Hannah Pitts, Macy Brandl and Maryn Macneil excelled on the mound, and Millie Fidge and Ellyanna Cinzori got it done at the plate as the Hawaii softball team beat UC Riverside 6-1 in the regular-season finale for both teams in Riverside, Calif.

The Rainbow Wahine (29-18, 21-6 Big West) will enter the Big West Tournament on a nine-game winning streak. Hawaii will be the No. 2 seed and receive a first-round bye in the six-team event, which starts Wednesday.

The Rainbow Wahine will open Thursday against the winner between No. 6 UC San Diego and No. 3 UC Santa Barbara.

Against UC Riverside, Pitts allowed one run over three innings, Brandl worked three innings for the win and Macneil pitched the seventh.

Fidge batted 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs, and Cinzori went 2-for-3 with a triple, a homer and three RBIs for Hawaii.

The Highlanders fell to 6-38, 4-23.
