UIL playoffs: 2 more Central Texas high school baseball teams advance to state semifinals

Two more Central Texas high school baseball teams advanced to the state semifinals Saturday in the UIL playoffs. Dripping Springs (Class 6A Division II) and Rouse (Class 5A Division I) won Game 3 of their best-of-three regional series to join Lake Travis and Wimberley as Austin-area programs reaching the fifth round. 

Here’s the roundup for Central Texas: 

Dripping Springs 7, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo 2

Bobby Wilkinson hit a solo home run, Sam Branyon went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs and Breydan Madeley finished 2-for-3 with a run driven in to lead the Tigers. A day after throwing five no-hit innings in an 11-0 win in Game 2, Blake Cox tossed 3 ⅓ innings of scoreless relief. Nixon Badilla started for Dripping Springs and struck out six in 3 ⅔ innings. Cruz McBride belted an RBI double and Anthony Delgado had a run-scoring single in other notable offense for the Tigers. 

Rouse 10, Boerne Champion 4

Jacob Soliz went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, Scott Knight hit an inside-the-park three-run homer and Brooks Hoffman and Colby Driskell combined for 3 ⅔ innings of scoreless relief as the Raiders rolled to a dominant win. Mason Gonzalez finished 2-for-4 with an RBI for Rouse, which reached the state semifinals for the second time in three years.
