U.S. Women’s Open 2026 Features Record-Setting $12.5 Million Prize Fund

The U.S. Women's Open is making history this week with an unprecedented prize pool of $12.5 million, marking a significant $500,000 increase from last year’s total. John Bodenhamer, the chief championship officer of the USGA, emphasized the importance of providing equitable financial opportunities for female golfers. “The women deserve to play with the monetary returns that we're providing,” he stated during a media briefing at Riviera Country Club.

Bodenhamer reflected on the progression of the tournament's purse, which was just $5.5 million five years ago. He expressed pride in the trajectory that has seen the prize money rise from $10 million in 2022 to its current record level. “We’re proud that it continues this year, and we’re proud to lead on that front as we lift up the women's game,” he added.

In previous tournaments, significant payouts have been awarded, with Minjee Lee taking home $1.8 million from the $10 million purse in 2022, and Allisen Corpuz making history in 2023 as the first woman to win $2 million in a single event. Last year, Yuka Saso and Maja Stark each received $2.4 million from a $12 million distribution. While the specific payout for this year's champion won't be revealed until after the cut is made, predictions suggest it could range from $2.25 million to as much as $3 million.

As for the challenges ahead, the USGA has identified key holes at Riviera, including the par-5s, that will test the athletes' skills. “Get every club in their bag dirty,” suggested USGA representatives, hinting at the demanding nature of the course designed to challenge the best in the game.
