USA Edges Out Brazil in Friendly Match Before Record Crowd in Fortaleza

In a closely contested friendly match held at Castelão in Fortaleza, the USA triumphed over Brazil with a narrow 1-0 victory on Tuesday night (9). This encounter followed Brazil's recent 2-1 win against the Americans in São Paulo just three days prior. The decisive moment came when a long-range effort from Wilson deflected off Brazilian defender Isabela, resulting in an own goal that left goalkeeper Lorena stranded.

The match drew an impressive 55,744 spectators, setting a new attendance record for Brazil's national team friendlies in the country. Samir Xaud, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), was present to witness the historic turnout.

Brazil entered the match with a strong track record, having claimed victory in their previous two meetings against the USA. The home crowd rallied behind the team, creating an electric atmosphere throughout the game. The hosts had opportunities to score, notably when Isa Haas netted a header, only for it to be disallowed due to offside.

The match was a display of determination from both sides, but the Americans appeared to create more significant chances. Lorena, Brazil's goalkeeper, was instrumental in keeping the scoreline competitive, making crucial saves during the first half, especially in the dying moments when she executed two remarkable stops against Sears and Wilson.

However, the match took a somber turn when Brazilian player Dudinha was forced to leave the pitch in the 31st minute due to severe knee pain, visibly distressed as she exited. In the second half, Brazil continued to push forward, but despite Lorena's best efforts, she could not prevent Isabela's unfortunate own goal.

Adding to Brazil's woes, Marta, who returned to the field for the first time since last year's Copa América, played the closing minutes when the team was reduced to nine players after Bia Zaneratto and Tarciane received red cards. Head coach Arthur Elias was also sent off, along with players Kerolin and Ludmila for dissent after the final whistle.
