USC Pitchers Mason Edwards and Grant Govel Selected for MLB Draft Combine
The 2026 season for USC baseball has concluded, but the excitement continues for the Trojans as offseason developments unfold. Recently, the list of participants for the upcoming MLB Draft Combine was revealed, featuring two standout pitchers from USC: Mason Edwards and Grant Govel.
Edwards has had a remarkable season, finishing with an undefeated record of 8-0 and an impressive earned run average (ERA) of 2.07. He also achieved a significant milestone by striking out 169 batters, marking the highest strikeout total for a USC pitcher since Mark Prior in 2001. His exceptional performance earned him the title of Big Ten Pitcher of the Year and a spot on the first-team All-American roster.
Meanwhile, Govel completed the season with a strong 10-3 record and a 2.87 ERA, garnering recognition as a second-team All-American. Although he is only a sophomore, Govel is eligible for the draft, as he will turn 21 before the event takes place next month.
Edwards has a promising shot at becoming USC's first first-round draft pick since 2009, while Govel is projected to be chosen in the middle rounds. Additionally, USC recruit Dustin Dunwoody, who recently switched his commitment from Arizona, also received an invitation to the combine.
If selected in the draft, Edwards, Govel, and Dunwoody will face the decision of whether to enter the professional ranks or return to USC. Given the current landscape of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, the Trojans may need to offer competitive deals to retain their players against potential draft offers.
The 2026 MLB Draft Combine is scheduled to take place from June 23-26 at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
