USC's Mason Edwards Recognized as First-Team All-American
Mason Edwards, the standout pitcher for USC baseball, has had a remarkable season that continues to garner accolades. Just last month, he was honored as the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, and now he has been selected as a first-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Edwards concluded the season with an undefeated record of 8-0 and a stellar earned run average (ERA) of 2.07. He showcased his dominance on the mound by striking out 169 batters, a feat not accomplished by a USC pitcher since Mark Prior did so in 2001. His recognition marks the first time in 11 years that a Trojan has received first-team All-American status, with catcher Garrett Stubbs being the last in 2015.
In addition to Edwards' accolades, USC pitcher Grant Govel has also made waves, earning second-team All-American honors. Govel ended the season with a solid 10-3 record and a 2.87 ERA. Both players are anticipated to be top candidates in this summer’s MLB Draft, posing a dilemma for USC as they hope to retain one or both for another year.
