Vingegaard Claims Giro d'Italia Title, Completes Grand Tour Collection
Jonas Vingegaard celebrated his victory at the Giro d'Italia on Sunday, triumphantly riding into Rome in the iconic pink jersey. The final stage of the race was clinched by Italian cyclist Jonathan Milan, but it was Vingegaard's achievement that stole the spotlight, making him the only active rider to have secured victories in all three Grand Tours.
The Danish cyclist added the Giro to his impressive resume, which already includes two Tour de France titles from 2022 and 2023, as well as the Vuelta a España title from 2025. With this win, Vingegaard joins an elite group of just eight riders in history, including legends like Bernard Hinault and Eddy Merckx, to have conquered all three major cycling tours.
"Winning all three is very special for me; it's difficult to find the words to describe it," Vingegaard remarked during an interview with Italian broadcaster RAI. Following his success in Rome, he plans to spend a few days with his family before returning to Denmark to prepare for the upcoming Tour de France. Vingegaard is set to face Tadej Pogacar, his significant rival and a four-time Tour de France champion.
The 29-year-old rider had a commanding presence throughout the Giro, often racing without the challenge of Pogacar. He concluded the event with five stage victories and a substantial lead of five minutes and 22 seconds over Felix Gall, who finished in second place. Australian Jai Hindley secured the third spot on the podium.
Among the other notable performances, Afonso Eulalio of Portugal took home the white jersey for the best young rider, while veteran Giulio Ciccone won the mountains classification. Meanwhile, Paul Magnier from France earned the sprint points jersey after impressive showings in three stages. Milan's win in the final stage marked his first victory of this year's Giro, a fitting end to a challenging race.
"I'm pleased to have finished my Giro this way," Milan expressed, reflecting on his determination throughout the competition. "It's important in terms of just winning something." He concluded the event 47 points behind Magnier in the overall standings.
