Virat Kohli Leads Royal Challengers Bengaluru to Back-to-Back IPL Titles

AHMEDABAD: In a thrilling finale, Virat Kohli showcased his brilliance as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched their second consecutive IPL title, successfully chasing down a target of 156 to defeat Gujarat Titans by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Kohli finished the match in style, hitting Arshad Khan for a six over long-on with two overs remaining, marking a dominant display from the franchise.

With an impressive unbeaten score of 75 runs off 42 deliveries, which included nine fours and three sixes, Kohli notched his fastest IPL half-century in just 25 balls. His performance resonated with the crowd of over 90,000, as chants of his name filled the stadium, confirming his status as a modern cricketing great.

This victory places RCB among an elite group of teams, becoming only the third to win back-to-back IPL championships, following the achievements of Chennai Super Kings (2010-11) and Mumbai Indians (2019-20). For a franchise that has faced numerous near misses, this triumph marks a significant turnaround.

After losing the toss, Gujarat Titans struggled from the outset and managed to post just 155 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Josh Hazlewood (2-37) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2-29) set a solid foundation for RCB with disciplined bowling during the Powerplay, claiming critical early wickets that stunted GT's batting order. Rasikh Salam (3-27) further demoralized the Titans, showcasing his potential for national selection with a standout performance.

Washington Sundar's resilient 50 off 37 balls provided some resistance for GT, helping them recover from a shaky start. However, their innings was marred by poor shot selection and an inability to build partnerships, with their highest stand being just 29 runs. RCB’s bowlers maintained tight control, limiting GT's scoring opportunities throughout the match.

RCB's chase began aggressively, with Kohli and Impact Player Venkatesh Iyer (32 off 16) putting together a rapid 62-run partnership in just 27 balls. Despite a brief resurgence from Rashid Khan, who took two wickets in quick succession, Kohli’s outstanding form ensured that RCB remained firmly in control as they cruised to victory.
