Virginia Tech Secures Commitment from Sudanese Prospect Eltayeb Eltayeb

On March 3, 2026, Virginia Tech's basketball program made a significant move in its roster development for the upcoming 2026-27 season. Head coach Mike Young announced the addition of Eltayeb Eltayeb, a promising 6-foot-8 wing player, who has officially committed to the Hokies.

Originally from Sudan, Eltayeb showcased his skills last season at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas, where he made a remarkable impact by averaging 21.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Notably, he demonstrated strong shooting abilities, converting over 43% of his attempts from beyond the arc, which adds valuable depth to Virginia Tech's perimeter game.

Despite his height, Eltayeb currently weighs in at just 170 pounds, indicating he has room to grow physically. His build is reminiscent of Kuol Atak, another recent acquisition for the Hokies, who transferred from Oklahoma. Atak stands at 6-foot-9 and weighs 192 pounds, also known for his shooting prowess.

As a player with guard-like skills, Eltayeb has experienced significant growth, increasing over seven inches since he began high school. He marks the first freshman commitment for Virginia Tech's 2026 recruiting class, which already includes six transfers.

Among those transfers are Ethan Copeland from Stetson, Miles Heide from San Diego State, Kuol Atak from Oklahoma, Musa Sangia from NC State, Isaiah Elohim from Florida Atlantic, and Jaylen Curry from Oklahoma State. Given the current state of his development, Eltayeb is likely to redshirt during the upcoming season as he works on adding strength to his frame. Welcome home, Eltayeb!
