Virginia Tech Secures Linebacker Amarri Irvin from Notre Dame
In a significant victory for Virginia Tech, linebacker Amarri Irvin has officially switched his commitment from Notre Dame to the Hokies. The announcement came shortly after Irvin's recent visit to Blacksburg, where Virginia Tech emerged as a leading option for the talented player.
Previously committed to the Fighting Irish since November, Irvin made the decision public on Monday, marking a notable shift in his recruitment. The 6-foot-0, 220-pound linebacker is regarded as a three-star recruit by 247Sports, while Rivals rates him as a four-star prospect. The composite rankings on 247Sports also list him as a four-star athlete.
Irvin currently plays for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, having transferred from Woodward Academy in College Park, Georgia. At Woodward, he played alongside cornerback Bryce Woods, who also recently pledged to Virginia Tech. Their joint visit to Blacksburg earlier this month helped solidify the Hokies' position over Notre Dame in Irvin's recruitment.
This commitment is a major boost for Virginia Tech, especially as they successfully competed against a program like Notre Dame, led by head coach Marcus Freeman, a former linebacker himself. The Hokies have been active in this recruiting class, securing several high-profile commitments. Irvin becomes the first linebacker in Virginia Tech's 2027 recruiting class, and his decision brings the Hokies' total commitments to 25, placing them at No. 7 nationally for that class.
