Walk-offs, track titles. Top Nashville moments from TSSAA spring sports championships

The TSSAA spring sports championships provided more thrilling action on May 20 depsite the complication of rain and thunderstorms that pushed through the area in the early afternoon hours.

Here are the top five moments from the Nashville area. 

Cooper Daniel delivers for CPA in TSSAA baseball state tournament

Daniel recorded a strikeout and induced a ground out to polish off a tense 2-1 victory in eight innings against Brentwood Academy, sending CPA to the state final for the second straight season. 

Daniel gave up one hit in two innings of work to earn the win. He was huge in CPA’s win over Baylor a day earlier too, retiring the dangerous middle part of Baylor’s hitting order to get the save in a 7-5 win. 

CPA (32-6-1) will face the winner of Lipscomb Academy vs. Brentwood Academy in the championship at 2:30 p.m. May 21 at MTSU. 

Walk-off in extras gives Westmoreland TSSAA softball state tournament win since 1985

Westmoreland stuck around in Murfreesboro a little longer and made some school history thanks to Brooklyn Deplyssler. 

The standout freshman designated hitter delivered a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning of a 3-2 win over Scotts Hill in the Class 2A losers bracket. It was Westmoreland’s first softball state tournament win since 1985. 

Ravenwood reaches third TSSAA soccer state tournament final 

Bastian Swartz and David Newman each scored a goal, giving the Raptors a 2-0 win over Siegel in the Class AAA state semifinals. Ravenwood (18-3-2) advances to play in the program’s third state championship game all-time and first since 2024. 

Ravenwood will play Bearden (20-1-3) at 11 a.m. May 22 for the title. Ravenwood lost to Bearden in both the 2024 and 2016 state finals. 

Max Curry’s 200-meter title helps deliver BGA second straight state track championship

Curry, a four-star sophomore receiver for BGA football, won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.16 seconds to keep the Wildcats in the hunt for their second straight title. Then BGA’s 4x400 relay team finished it off with a winning time of 3:25.27 to clinch the program’s second straight Division II-A track and field state championship. 

FRA’s girls won the program’s third title in four years, scoring 97 points to hold off Harding Academy (90). 

Alex Malich comes up clutch for White House Heritage in 2A baseball state tournament

Malich’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning wound up being the winning run in the Patriots’ 1-0 victory over Cascade. It was a huge moment, putting White House Heritage in prime position to reach the state final for the first time in program history. 

Somebody will have to beat White House Heritage twice to keep them out of the championship game. 

Malich finished 2-for-2 against Cascade.
