After missing out on USC wide receiver Makai Lemon in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft, the Steelers rallied in the second round. The team wasted no time trading up on the second day of the draft to select former Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard.

Last season, the Steelers passing offense limped along with wide receiver DK Metcalf and running back Kenneth Gainwell doing all the heavy lifting. This offseason, Gainwell moved on to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but the Steelers upgraded the passing game with wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. in addition to Bernard. Bernard's scheme and position flexibility are going to add an entirely new dimension to the Steelers passing game and should benefit Metcalf and Pittman, along with whoever ends up playing quarterback.
