West Ham Set to Offload €27M Striker Niclas Füllkrug for Minimal Fee

West Ham United is reportedly gearing up to part ways with German forward Niclas Füllkrug this summer, potentially for a mere fraction of the €27 million they initially invested, as indicated by Sky Sports Germany. Füllkrug joined the club in the summer of 2024 after impressing at both Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund, but his time in London has not gone as planned.

After a challenging debut season marred by a significant injury, Füllkrug's situation worsened with West Ham's relegation from the Premier League, placing financial strain on the club. Having finished in 18th place, the team now faces difficulties in managing his estimated annual salary of €4.5 million. Last season, Füllkrug was loaned to AC Milan, where he made 19 appearances, yet only scored once, and the Italian club has opted not to activate their purchase option.

With a contract running until 2028, Füllkrug now finds himself without a clear path forward at West Ham. The club is considering terminating his contract to alleviate their wage burden, potentially facilitating a transfer for minimal compensation or even a free move. Werder Bremen has already expressed interest in bringing him back to Germany, although his salary and injury history pose significant concerns. Interest also comes from clubs in Italy, Spain, and the MLS, providing Füllkrug with various avenues to explore as he seeks a new beginning.

In light of these developments, West Ham’s decision to cut ties with Füllkrug seems justified. As a newly relegated side, maintaining a high-earning striker would hinder their efforts to rebuild the squad. Füllkrug's performance, with only three league goals in 26 appearances and recurring injuries, has not matched the level of his prior success at Dortmund.
