Western Pennsylvania Softball All-Stars Gear Up for Final Showcase

On June 15, Fox Chapel senior catcher Ava Wamsley will join forces with standout players from North Hills and Shaler for one last performance at the Western Pennsylvania Softball All-Star Game. This exciting event will see Wamsley team up with Bria Bosiljevac, Alyssa Schaffold, and Jayla Antomachi of Shaler and Abby Sutton from North Hills on Team Black. They will face off against Team Gold, which includes Liana Yusko from Plum and others looking to make a strong showing. The game is set to kick off at 7:15 p.m. at Plum High School.

DiLonardo, the event's lead organizer and Team Gold coach alongside Jenna Muncie from Peters Township, remarked, "This is a nice way to give the kids one last chance to wear their uniform and celebrate their high school careers." Out of over 100 nominated seniors, 41 were selected to participate, many of whom will advance to play at the collegiate level.

Team Black will be led by former Franklin Regional coach Jim Armstrong and Shaler's Tom Sorce, with South Florida freshman Toryn Fulton serving as an honorary coach. Armstrong expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "The talent level for this game is awesome... It's so special to see all of these great players on one field." The weather forecast looks promising, with temperatures expected in the low to mid-70s, a welcome change from the sweltering heat of previous years.

The exhibition will feature eight innings, with a limit of three or four runs per half inning to maintain the game's pace. "It's an exhibition of their skill, not necessarily how many runs you can score," DiLonardo explained. The recent high school softball season concluded with the PIAA championship games, showcasing strong performances from WPIAL teams, with several players from those squads participating in Tuesday's all-star event.

Local talent will be well-represented, including players from the Alle-Kiski Valley and Westmoreland, alongside many others from across the region. Armstrong praised the efforts of the organizers, stating, "Phil and Jenna just do a tremendous job leading the way for this game." As the teams prepare to compete, the spirit of camaraderie and celebration permeates the event, making it a fitting end to the high school careers of these talented athletes.
