Wisconsin Hosts 4-Star Safety Mekhi Williams for Official Visit

It's been over a year since Florida State secured a commitment from Mekhi Williams, a highly regarded four-star safety from Ruskin, Florida. Standing at 6-foot-2, Williams made an early decision to join the Seminoles back in March before his junior season began. While he remains committed to FSU, he has explored other opportunities and is taking his time before the start of his senior year.

This weekend, Williams is visiting Wisconsin as part of his official recruitment process. Although the Badgers are not typically known for attracting top talent from Florida, they have positioned themselves as serious contenders for his commitment. “Wisconsin was a great place all-around,” Williams remarked to Evan Flood of Badger Blitz following his visit last month. “The atmosphere was great. I loved how everyone welcomed me. It’s just great all-around.”

Currently ranked No. 180 overall and as the No. 14 safety in the 2027 recruiting class by the Rivals Industry Rankings, Williams is also regarded as the 19th best player in Florida. Wisconsin's recruiting efforts are gaining traction, sitting at No. 26 in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, and securing a commitment from Williams could significantly enhance their class.

However, the competition remains fierce. Maryland recently hosted Williams, and Nebraska is also in pursuit, with an official visit planned for the weekend of June 12. Miami and LSU have shown interest at various points in his recruitment as well. Despite these options, Williams has expressed a strong connection to Florida State, stating, “What made me commit early is I’m a Florida boy... I wanted to stay home — it’s my dream school. I love FSU with all of my heart.”

As it stands, Williams holds the distinction of being the top-ranked commitment in Florida State’s 2027 class, while the Seminoles currently rank No. 32 nationally as of late May.
