World Cup Coaching Record Set to Change Hands Thrice in Just Four Days

In an extraordinary turn of events, the upcoming 2026 World Cup will witness a remarkable feat as the record for the oldest coach in World Cup history is poised to be broken three times within a mere four days. This unique circumstance highlights the ever-evolving nature of sports records.

The current record stands at 71 years, held by Otto Rehhagel, who led Greece during the 2010 tournament. However, this record is set to be eclipsed on June 11, with South Africa's Hugo Broos taking the helm at the age of 74 when his team faces Mexico in the tournament opener.

Broos's reign as the oldest coach will be short-lived. Later that same day, Miroslav Koubek will step into the spotlight, also at 74 years old, but notably seven months his senior. Koubek will oversee Czechia's first match against South Korea shortly after Broos's game.

The record will shift once more on Sunday when Dick Advocaat, aged 78, takes charge of Curaçao for their inaugural World Cup match against Germany. Advocaat will not only reclaim the title but will also become the first coach to participate in both the 2026 and 1994 World Cups, showcasing his extensive experience in international football.
