The New York Yankees are looking into the idea of having Anthony Volpe make a position change.
If nothing else, they'd like the shortstop to add some versatility.
Volpe is going to start getting practice reps at second base on days he isn't in the lineup to play shortstop, according to reports on Friday.
Aaron Boone says Anthony Volpe will begin working out at second base on the days where he's not in the starting lineup, per @Joelsherman1

The Yankees have counted on Volpe as a shortstop, but times might be changing.
For one, Jose Caballero has been really impactful this season for the Yanks at short, and now that he's healthy again, he can continue to contribute.
On top of that, Volpe is an inconsistent fielder at shortstop. It seems that sometimes he butchers the easy plays, which is obviously not ideal.
The Yankees already have an established second baseman, Jazz Chisholm Jr., although Jazz has also played other positions in the past.
Caballero is quite versatile, too, and so the Yanks may be looking to simply get as much utility out of their middle infield depth as possible.
Volpe's bat has to get going to make it worth playing him, anyway, but at least the Yankees are looking for ways to potentially get him more opportunities.
