Young Golfing Stars Giuseppe Puebla and Miles Russell Secure U.S. Open Spots

Two of the nation's leading junior golfers, Giuseppe Puebla from Royal Palm Beach and Miles Russell from Jacksonville Beach, have successfully qualified for the 2026 U.S. Open. Their achievements came during the Florida qualifier held on June 8 at BallenIsles Country Club (East) in Palm Beach Gardens, which is famously known as "Golf's Longest Day."

Puebla delivered an impressive performance, finishing tied for first by shooting an impressive 7-under over two rounds. Russell, who had none other than Tiger Woods' son Charlie as his caddy, advanced through a tense 3-for-2 sudden death playoff. Currently, Puebla and Russell hold the top two positions in the American Junior Golf Association's Rolex rankings, with Puebla ranked first and Russell second.

In a remarkable display, both young golfers managed to outperform seasoned PGA Tour competitors, including Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Matt Kuchar, and Matthieu Pavon, who collectively boast 35 professional victories. Other qualifiers from the event included Ben Silverman and Ryder Cowan.

Scheduled for June 18-21, 2026, the U.S. Open will take place at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. The Florida qualifying event featured numerous young talents from Palm Beach County, including Wylie Inman from North Palm Beach and Boca Raton's Oscar Crowe, both of whom have recently made their mark in varsity golf.

During the qualifier, Russell led for the majority of the competition until a triple bogey on the 18th hole set him back. Puebla encountered early struggles with three consecutive bogeys but made a remarkable comeback, scoring five birdies in his last six holes of the opening round. He continued his strong performance, ultimately taking the lead with five birdies and only one bogey in his second round. Russell also made a strong push with seven birdies, but a double bogey on his second-to-last hole forced him into a playoff. Cowan secured the first qualifying spot with a par on the first playoff hole, while Russell clinched the final bid by making a birdie on the second playoff hole.
