107 Golfers Secure Spots in 2026 U.S. Open, 49 Places Still Up for Grabs
The lineup for the 2026 U.S. Open is beginning to take shape, with 107 players having already qualified for the prestigious event. A total of 156 competitors will ultimately participate, leaving 49 additional slots to be determined in the coming weeks. The majority of these final spots will be contested on Monday, June 8, during what is known as Golf's Longest Day.
Final qualifying will occur at nine golf courses throughout the United States and one in Canada. Each venue will host 36 holes of competition, with only a limited number of players advancing from each site.
Recently added to the list of qualifiers are Preston Stout and J.T. Poston. Stout earned his place by winning the individual title at the NCAA championships, although he, along with six others, must remain an amateur to compete in the U.S. Open. Poston secured his position after his triumph at the Memorial, which will elevate him into the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking as of June 15.
As of now, the list of qualified players includes notable names such as Bryson DeChambeau, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Thomas, among others. Players still have opportunities to qualify through the final qualifying rounds or by winning multiple PGA Tour events that grant full FedEx Cup points since the last U.S. Open.
Notably absent from the 2026 tournament will be Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. Woods, who has won the U.S. Open three times, is ineligible as he has not competed in a major since the 2019 Masters. Mickelson will miss his third consecutive major due to personal reasons, with his last appearance in a major being at the 2021 PGA Championship.
