5 Eagles who could easily create some buzz for themselves during OTAs
Let's get the obvious disclaimer out of the way now. Philadelphia Eagles OTAs are not training camp. Training camp is not the preseason. The preseason is not the regular season. Every year, someone wins the spring in shorts only to vanish once actual football begins. Nakobe Dean said it best once: "Shorts are cute, but football is played in pads."
Say what you will. Truer words may have never been spoken about offseason workouts. That said, let's not pretend OTA buzz isn't real. One crisp deep ball posted by the Eagles' social media team in dramatic slow motion can dominate timelines for hours. A clip of a corner blanketing a receiver in one-on-ones becomes 'proof' of a breakout. Every fan base does this. Eagles fans may do it with a little more enthusiasm than most.
Philadelphia has no shortage of candidates who could generate some noise this spring, but a few names feel especially primed to become talking points. Here are five that come to mind almost immediately.
Riq Woolen, cornerback
There may not be a more fascinating Eagles player to monitor this spring than Riq Woolen. The physical tools have never been the issue. At this point, everyone understands what kind of athlete he is. Length, speed, explosiveness, recovery ability: the package is obvious. The questions have always centered elsewhere. Consistency. Technique. Focus. Temperament. Those are the conversations that have followed him. The interesting thing about OTAs is that positive early reviews won't necessarily silence skeptics, but they can absolutely shift the tone of the conversation.
If reports suggest Woolen looks locked in, engaged, and disruptive, the discussion quickly changes from 'Can he be trusted?' to 'Did the Eagles just unlock something?' and 'Might he stick around a little longer?'.
Tyler Steen, right guard
Tyler Steen may be the least flashy name on this list, but he might carry some of the most important stakes. Everyone knows what the Eagles have when healthy. Jordan Mailata is elite. Landon Dickerson is elite. Cam Jurgens has cemented himself. Lane Johnson remains a marvel. Yet somehow, whenever offensive line conversations begin, the immediate instinct is often to discuss Tyler Steen's eventual replacement rather than Tyler Steen himself.
If Steen looks steady, confident, and clearly in command this spring, that narrative could change quickly. The Eagles don't need him to be a star. They need him to prove he can be a reliable answer without forcing another urgent roster conversation.
Dontayvion Wicks and Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, wide receivers
Grouping these two feels fair because the same thing could happen to both. Marquise Brown has become oddly underrated simply because injuries and circumstances have muted some of the excitement around him. People seem to forget this is still a player with legitimate speed, big-play ability, and proven production when healthy.
Dontayvion Wicks, meanwhile, remains something of a mystery to many Eagles fans. There's curiosity, sure, but not necessarily widespread certainty about what Philadelphia truly landed. That's where OTAs become fun.
This is the exact time of year when one beautifully thrown Jalen Hurts deep ball, one clean route in space, or one viral clip from team media suddenly creates a mini frenzy. It would not be remotely surprising if one of these receivers, or both, became temporary kings of Eagles Twitter before June even ends.
Arnold Ebiketie, EDGE
This feels like the sneaky name. Everyone is understandably excited about Jonathan Greenard. Jalyx Hunt's growth has become a legitimate talking point. Nolan Smith's role will continue drawing attention.
And somewhere amid all that, Arnold Ebiketie quietly slipped into the background. That may not last.
Ebiketie is exactly the kind of player who could string together a few impressive spring practices and suddenly re-enter the conversation in a meaningful way. The Eagles didn't bring him in to be a forgotten rotational body. If he flashes early, particularly as pass-rush clips begin circulating, expect the 'Wait... are we sleeping on this guy?' conversation to arrive quickly because it always does.
