Andre Drummond Warns Knicks About the Challenge of Victor Wembanyama
The New York Knicks are gearing up for a formidable challenge in the NBA Finals as they prepare to face the San Antonio Spurs, led by the towering 7-foot-4 rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama. The French standout, selected first overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, is just 22 years old but has already begun to establish himself as a dominant force in the league.
In a recent conversation on N3ON’s stream, former NBA star Andre Drummond shared his thoughts on the daunting task the Knicks face against Wembanyama. “I don’t think there’s an answer [for Wembanyama]. I think you live with what he does,” Drummond remarked, highlighting the young player's unique skill set that allows him to perform like a guard despite his height.
Drummond suggested that the Knicks might have a fighting chance if they can effectively manage the other Spurs players while allowing Wemby to take his shots. “I think if they slow down everybody else, like all the other guards, and let him do his thing, they got a chance,” he noted, although he acknowledged that Knicks' big men Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson face a tough road ahead.
During the regular season, the Knicks managed to secure a 2-1 record against the Spurs, including a championship victory of 124-113 in Las Vegas. Wembanyama had limited playtime during this stretch due to injury management, recording 18 points and six rebounds off the bench in that matchup. However, he did shine in an earlier game against the Knicks, scoring 25 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
Despite Drummond's candid assessment of Wembanyama's capabilities, he remains optimistic about the Knicks' chances, even predicting New York to win the series. The first game of the Finals is set for 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, broadcast on ABC and ESPN.
