Arlington’s Miles Robinson Set for World Cup Debut with USMNT

The United States Men's National Team is gearing up for its second World Cup friendly this weekend against Germany in Chicago, Illinois. Following this match, they will face Paraguay in their opening World Cup game on June 12th in Los Angeles. Among the players making headlines is Arlington native Miles Robinson, who is set to make his World Cup debut.

Robinson's mother, Jane Madden, shared the excitement surrounding this significant moment: “He did a family FaceTime, and we were like oh my God. Guys, I made the team. We were all really excited.” He began his soccer journey in Arlington, Massachusetts, kicking a ball at just three years old. During his time at Arlington High School, he also made his mark as a basketball player, amassing over 1,000 career points, ranking him fourth in the school's history.

After a season with the varsity soccer team, Robinson moved on to play for a local club before attending Syracuse University for college soccer. He entered the Major League Soccer Draft after less than two years and was selected second overall by Atlanta United in 2017. Over his career, Robinson has won multiple trophies with Atlanta and joined FC Cincinnati in 2024. At 29, he has represented the USMNT 39 times and scored three goals, although he missed the last World Cup in 2022 due to an Achilles injury.

His mother noted the dedication he has shown since his recovery: “He’s been working towards playing in this World Cup, especially on home soil—that’s really nice. This is the pinnacle.” Robinson recently played in a friendly against Senegal, helping secure a 3-2 victory for the USMNT.

As the family prepares for the upcoming match against Germany, his father, Jeff Robinson, expressed confidence in Miles's focus and determination: “When Miles is locked in, he is extraordinary. I’m excited because I know he’s going to be focused. He wants to win the World Cup.” The local community is equally enthusiastic about Robinson's achievements, with former basketball coach and current Athletic Director John Bowler stating, “He’s done a lot of firsts. All the kids in Arlington probably didn’t think it was possible to be an Olympian or a World Cup player, now see someone from Arlington did it.”
