The Atlanta Braves have been on a roll to start the season, and it is a little surprising considering the injuries that have hit the roster. Atlanta began the season without players such as Spencer Strider, Spencer Schwellenbach, and Ha-Seong Kim.
While the Braves are beginning to get players back, they continue to lose others to unfortunate circumstances. Despite all of the injuries, Atlanta has only lost one series so far this season.
“They won 10 of the first 11 series of the year, splitting the one they didn’t with the Arizona Diamondbacks in early April. It was the first time in franchise history that they went this deep into the season, in respect to the number of series played, without losing a series,” SI’s Harrison Smajovitts wrote.
On Wednesday, Atlanta clinched at least a series split against the Miami Marlins. Left-hander Chris Sale was dominant for the Braves.
“Sale (7-3) earned the win Wednesday against Miami, allowing one run on four hits and no walks in seven innings. He struck out eight. The All-Star southpaw found himself in peak form again Wednesday, generating 18 whiffs en route to fanning at least seven in his sixth consecutive start,” CBS Sports wrote.
Not only was it huge for Atlanta to avoid losing another series, but the Braves also picked up their 34th win of the season. Their 34-16 record marks the organization’s best start through 50 games since 2003.
“The Braves are back in the win column, thumping the Marlins, 9-1. Atlanta once again, will not lose a series. They go for 3-of-4 on Thursday in Miami. At 34-16, this is the club's best 50-game start since 2003,” Braves reporter Grant McAuley posted.
The Marlins opened the series with a 12-0 victory on Monday night, but the Braves have responded in a massive way since then. Even when it appears another team has finally slowed Atlanta down, the Braves seem to respond with even more momentum.
This has already been a historic start to the season for Atlanta, and the organization will look to continue making history moving forward. Right now, the Braves are scorching hot, and no one appears to have an answer for them.
