Best West Virginia high schools for athletes? According to one study, these are top 25
West Virginia high school athletics has plenty of historic headliners.
Randy Moss and Jason Williams played together in high school. Mary Lou Retton was just a sophomore at Fairmont Senior High School when she became the first American woman to win the all-around gold medal at the Olympics in 1984.
And of course, the great Jerry West, aka The Logo, was born and raised in the state.
Complementing the championship-caliber pedigree, plenty of high schools in the state have become part of the story, serving as the backdrop for the accolades. That trend continues today.
With that in mind, looking at the present, which high schools in West Virginia today are considered the best for athletes today?
According to a study conducted by Niche, which accounts for survey feedback from students and parents—accounting for "reviews of athletics, number of state championships, student participation in athletics, and the number of sports offered at the school"—and data from the U.S. Department of Education, these are the top 25.
