Blevins' Heroics Propel Green to District Championship in Nail-Biter Against Trimble

LOGAN — The Green Bobcats demonstrated remarkable composure during the OHSAA Division VII District Championship Game, showcasing their resilience against the Trimble Tomcats. With a thrilling finish, the Bobcats clinched a 4-3 victory, marking their second consecutive district title.

Trailing 3-2 in the sixth inning, Green rallied when Uriah Satterfield hit a crucial RBI single to even the score. The game concluded dramatically in the seventh inning, as junior Gabe Blevins delivered a walk-off single to left field, sealing the win for Green and propelling them into the Division VII, Region 27 Tournament at Logan High School.

Head coach David Shoupe expressed pride in his team's performance, stating, “You have to have some luck involved, but you also have to have resiliency, and we definitely had that. I’m so proud of the guys. It’s exciting for these guys and something that we can hang our hat on.” Timely hitting and aggressive baserunning were key factors in the Bobcats' success throughout the game.

Green started strong, with leadoff hitter Riddick Jenkins hitting a line drive on the first pitch of the game, reaching third base. Senior Mason Neal quickly drove him home with an RBI single, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Satterfield drew a walk and advanced to score on a hit by Conner Blanton, extending Green's lead to 2-0.

However, Trimble responded with a strong performance in the middle innings. The Tomcats took the lead 3-2 after a series of timely hits, including a two-out RBI single by Caleb Cahoe. As the game progressed, Blevins maintained focus, stating, “When I started the game, I felt confident. When Trimble had that two-run inning, I got down on myself a little bit. In the sixth inning, I came back differently than I did in the fifth.”

Ultimately, Blevins’ offensive and defensive efforts were pivotal, as he secured the tying run with a key single before Satterfield's game-tying hit. Shoupe commended Satterfield's determination, highlighting his journey back from two ACL surgeries. “It couldn’t happen for a better kid,” Shoupe remarked. “He’s coming off two ACL surgeries, had to sit out two seasons. We’re so thankful to have him.” With this win, the Bobcats look forward to continuing their postseason journey.
