Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski Impresses with 104.2 mph Fastball Despite Loss to Braves

ATLANTA (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Jacob Misiorowski showcased his remarkable talent on Friday night against the Atlanta Braves, reaching a top speed of 104.2 mph. However, his impressive performance wasn't enough to secure a win, as the Brewers fell short, losing 2-1.

Misiorowski threw six innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven batters. This outing marked the first time since April 25 that he had surrendered more than one run in a game. Before this match, he had been on a dominant streak, giving up only one earned run over an impressive 54 1/3 innings across eight starts.

His fastball was particularly noteworthy, with Statcast recording 54 pitches that reached at least 100 mph, including a remarkable 47 thrown at 101 mph or higher—setting a new record since tracking began in 2008. His previous record for pitches over 101 mph was 45, achieved on June 6 against Colorado. The high point of the evening was a pitch clocked at 104.2 mph to Eli White in the second inning.

Before this game, Misiorowski had gone 29 innings without allowing an earned run since May 25, until Mauricio Dubón's two-run single in the sixth inning raised his league-leading ERA from 1.34 to 1.45. His standout season has generated significant attention, especially following a remarkable one-hit shutout against the Phillies on June 12.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy commented on Misiorowski's maturity, stating, “He’s got a lot coming at him, and luckily I think a lot of that bounces off him. He clearly understands what’s important, that he’s got his priorities in order and hopefully it stays that way.”

The 6-foot-7 right-hander entered this game averaging an astonishing 100.1 mph on his fastball, the fastest recorded for a starting pitcher in the pitch-tracker era. Misiorowski had initially been slated to face Braves pitcher Chris Sale, whom he admires, but a rainout delayed Sale's start until Saturday.
