Brody Bumila of Raynham Honored as MaxPreps Male Athlete of the Year
Brody Bumila, a senior pitcher from Raynham and a standout athlete at Bishop Feehan High School, has garnered significant recognition as he was named the 2025-26 MaxPreps Male National Athlete of the Year. This accolade arrives just a week after he was awarded the Gatorade Massachusetts Baseball Player of the Year, highlighting his exceptional performance in both baseball and basketball.
The 6-foot-9 left-handed pitcher has made waves with his impressive fastball, which has been clocked over 100 mph. His pitching record stands at 5-0, during which he allowed only seven runs (six earned) and struck out an impressive 92 batters across 42⅓ innings. On the basketball court, Bumila displayed his versatility by averaging 30.6 points and 15.2 rebounds per game during the regular season, and he elevated his performance in the playoffs, averaging 40.8 points and 20.8 rebounds per game, leading the Shamrocks to their first-ever MIAA Division 1 boys basketball championship.
Despite facing challenges due to a UCL injury and subsequent surgery in 2024, Bumila's talent has not gone unnoticed by scouts, especially as he prepares for a promising future with a commitment to the University of Texas. His remarkable achievement of 20 strikeouts in a no-hitter against Moses Brown on May 8 broke a long-standing school record, showcasing his resilience and skill.
In a video interview with MaxPreps, Bumila expressed his gratitude for the recognition, stating, "It means a lot (to win this award) knowing that the four years I've had at Feehan, I've worked as hard as I possibly could." He emphasized the importance of his teammates in his success, acknowledging their contributions to both his basketball and baseball journeys.
Bumila's latest honor places him alongside a prestigious group of former winners, including notable athletes like Derrick Henry, Patrick Mahomes, and Kyler Murray. He makes history as the first male athlete from Massachusetts and New England to receive this award, and the first recipient from the Northeast since Joe Girard III in 2018-19.
Looking ahead, Bumila has the opportunity to cap off his high school career with another championship title as Bishop Feehan prepares to face Catholic Memorial in the MIAA Division 1 championship on Saturday, June 13, at Polar Park in Worcester. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m., with tickets available digitally through GoFan.
