Broncos' Running Back and Receiver Poised for Breakout Seasons in 2026

The Denver Broncos are gearing up for an exciting 2026 season, with high expectations following their impressive performance in 2025, where they boasted one of the NFL's top defenses and secured the AFC's No. 1 seed. As they look to enhance their offensive capabilities, the addition of star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins is anticipated to provide a significant boost.

Despite a relatively quiet offseason regarding free-agent acquisitions, Waddle's arrival is expected to inject new energy into the Broncos' offense, potentially unlocking greater opportunities for quarterback Bo Nix. Analysts, including Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report, suggest that the most intense competition this summer will unfold among the wide receivers.

Knox highlights two young talents who could emerge as breakout stars: receiver Troy Franklin and running back RJ Harvey. With veteran Courtland Sutton likely to be challenged for the No. 2 receiver spot, Franklin's familiarity with Nix from their time at Oregon could give him a competitive edge. Sutton, although signed through 2029, will soon turn 31 and could be a cap casualty next offseason, allowing Franklin more playing time and potential production.

Meanwhile, RJ Harvey, despite starting only seven games in his rookie year, made a significant impact with 896 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns. With Denver's running back lineup featuring J.K. Dobbins and fourth-round pick Jonah Coleman, Harvey is expected to thrive in a committee role, which may prevent him from having to bear the entire workload as he did previously.

If Franklin and Harvey can elevate their games in the coming season, the Broncos' pursuit of a Super Bowl title will be considerably strengthened, making them a team to watch in 2026.
