Lily O’Dell has proven to be a fan favorite, securing the highest number of votes this spring, with an impressive total of 22,477. The Ida softball standout dominated the recent poll, which saw a record 44,194 votes cast. As the voting continues, it’s time to choose the next Athlete of the Week for the June 1-7 period.

Following O’Dell in the rankings was Jackson Surma, a baseball player from New Boston Huron, who garnered 17,534 votes. Despite his strong showing, which would have been enough to win in any other week, he finished in second place. Lincoln Murbach, a hurdler from Erie Mason, came in third with 1,006 votes.

Voting for this week’s candidates is open until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10. Here’s a look at the nominees, listed alphabetically:

Addison Burgei (Gibraltar Carlson softball): Hit a home run, marking her team’s sole run in the Division 1 Regional semifinals at Bedford. Julia Dyson (Airport softball): Achieved three hits, including a double, and was pivotal as the winning pitcher in the Division 2 Regional finals at Fowlerville. James Feudi (Summerfield boys golf): Finished 16th at the Division 2 state finals with scores of 81-83—164. Claire Franzen (Summerfield softball): Contributed two runs in a 3-1 victory over the host team in the Division 4 Regional finals at Dansville.

Other nominees include Taleon Guess (Bedford boys golf), who placed 36th at the Division 1 state finals with a two-day score of 151; Josh Horak (Summerfield baseball), who hit a single, double, and triple in the Regional semifinals; Lukas Linzell (SMCC baseball), who had two RBI singles in the same match; and Charleigh Meggison (Milan softball), who homered in the semifinals and went 2-for-2 in the Division 2 Regional finals.

Additionally, Brayden Siders (Airport boys golf) shot a total of 155 over two days, helping his team secure 13th place at the Division 2 state finals, while Asher Simmons (Monroe baseball) delivered a stellar performance with a one-hit shutout against Livonia Franklin in the Regional semifinals. Avery Turk (New Boston Huron girls soccer) scored the decisive goal to lead her team to their second straight Regional championship, and Avy Wood (Whiteford softball) excelled with a 5-for-7 performance, including two doubles and a triple, as the Bobcats triumphed in the Division 3 Regional at Wixom St. Catherine.
