Positive News for Royals as Jac Caglianone's Shoulder Issue Turns Out to Be Minor

The Kansas City Royals breathed a sigh of relief on Sunday after receiving encouraging news regarding outfielder Jac Caglianone’s shoulder. Following his exit in Saturday's match against the Minnesota Twins due to discomfort, the team was anxious for an update. Caglianone sustained the injury while colliding with the right field wall during Friday’s game.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro was being cautious with the 23-year-old player, particularly after noticing Caglianone favoring his shoulder while swinging during Saturday's game. Fortunately, the young outfielder reported improvement in his condition on Sunday, and initial evaluations indicated no structural damage.

While Caglianone did not play in the Royals’ 6-5 victory on Sunday, which secured the series win, he was considered a potential option off the bench. The injury occurred during the second inning when Caglianone collided with the wall while attempting to field a foul ball hit by Twins outfielder Austin Martin. Despite the impact, he managed to finish the game with three at-bats.

Having a day off on Monday may provide Caglianone the necessary rest to recover fully, as he is currently classified as day-to-day. In his inaugural full MLB season, Caglianone has shown promise as a key contributor in the Royals’ lineup. Drafted sixth overall in 2024, he has a .250 batting average and a .729 OPS, with six home runs to his name this season. While he has displayed considerable power, ranking in the league's top percentile for hard-hit balls, he is still working on improving his strikeout rate.
