Broward High School Baseball Honors Announced for 2023 Season

The 2023 Broward County high school baseball awards have been unveiled, recognizing outstanding players and coaches across various categories. The selections highlight the exceptional talent in the region's baseball scene.

Leading the First Team is Ace Aguila, a senior pitcher from West Broward, who delivered an impressive performance with a 7-2 record and a 2.14 ERA over 55 2/3 innings. He also recorded two saves and struck out 60 batters. Another standout from West Broward is A.J. Cruz, who had a remarkable batting average of .407, connecting for nine home runs and driving in 36 runs, all while achieving a 1.302 OPS.

On the mound, Garret Duffy from Archbishop McCarthy made his mark as the team's ace with a 1.31 ERA and 66 strikeouts across 48 innings. Coral Springs’ Ryan Guthrie also shone, boasting a .446 batting average and contributing 23 2/3 innings with a 2.66 ERA. Meanwhile, Pembroke Pines Charter’s Dean Jaworski had an impressive senior season with a 1.31 ERA and four wins.

Rounding out the First Team, Jake Rizzo from Stoneman Douglas played a pivotal role in his team’s championship run, hitting .357 with five homers and 22 RBIs. Coral Springs' Aiden Roy excelled on the mound with a 0.99 ERA and a 7-3 record. Other notable players include Randy Ruiz from Stoneman Douglas, who hit nine home runs, and Brady Buxbaum from St. Thomas Aquinas, who led the Raiders with eight home runs and a .402 average.

The Second Team and Honorable Mentions also feature talented players from various schools in the area. Additionally, recognition for Coach of the Year honors went to Todd Fitz-Gerald of Stoneman Douglas, Howard Stein of West Broward, and Joey Wardlow of St. Thomas Aquinas, all of whom led their teams to impressive seasons.
