BYU Football Secures Commitment from Las Vegas Defensive Back Demichael Burks
The BYU Cougars football team marked a key milestone in their recruiting efforts on Monday with the addition of Demichael Burks, a talented defensive back from Desert Pines High School in Las Vegas. This commitment is particularly notable as Burks was previously committed to Fresno State before switching his allegiance to BYU.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing approximately 160 pounds, Burks made waves in the recruiting scene after announcing his decision to join the Cougars' 2027 recruiting class. He had recently visited Fresno State in early June but had not publicly de-committed prior to his announcement to join BYU.
Burks received his scholarship offer from BYU back on April 17, and this marks his only offer from a Power Four institution, though he has garnered interest from several other programs at different competitive levels. With his commitment, he becomes the sixth high school athlete to join BYU's 2027 class, adding depth to their defensive backfield.
His commitment is especially significant as he is the second cornerback in this recruiting class, alongside New Jersey’s Ryan Wooten, and the second player from Las Vegas, following running back Ezra Sanelivi. This move reflects BYU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its roster through strategic recruiting in key areas.
