Caleb Williams Channels Michael Jordan for Madden 27 Cover

Caleb Williams is making headlines not just for his football prowess but also for his admiration of basketball legends. While he aims to trademark the iconic nickname of one Hall of Famer, he recently paid tribute to another: Michael Jordan. Williams appears on the standard cover of Madden NFL 27, showcasing a dramatic fourth-down jump pass from his wild-card victory against the Packers.

The design features a nod to Jordan's legendary 1985 Air Jordan campaign, which depicted the basketball icon soaring through the air with the Chicago skyline in the backdrop. Williams requested that EA Sports incorporate this skyline into his cover, symbolizing his respect for Jordan and the rich sports history of Chicago. "That’s the position I want to be in, but I also wanted to pay respect to MJ," Williams stated during the EA Sports season-opening event, according to ESPN's Courtney Cronin. "It was more of a respect thing. Bringing retro back, not letting people forget that and doing it on my side of the world of football."

Though he has yet to meet Jordan, Williams mentioned that a meeting is "in the works." He joins an elite group of athletes, including Saquon Barkley, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Tom Brady, who have graced the cover of Madden NFL. While Mahomes and Brady have made multiple appearances, Williams aspires to join them in that exclusive club.

In the past, being featured on the Madden cover has come with the infamous "Madden Curse," which has seen several athletes experience declines in performance or injuries the following season. However, Williams is undeterred. "No more of this Madden curse," he declared. "We're going to go out and do all the things we need to do, stay healthy, do all the things we need to do study film and be prepared each week, and go out there and handle business."

The deluxe edition of Madden 27 also features Williams, this time in a snowy scene, paying homage to his aspiration of taking over the "Iceman" moniker from George Gervin.
