The Boston Celtics could be looking to make some major changes to their roster this offseason, and that could mean parting ways with Jaylen Brown.
After the season ended, Brad Stevens noted that the Celtics need to find a way to get better at the rim. With Giannis Antetokounmpo rumored to be available, the Celtics have been tabbed as a contender to land him. To acquire him, the team would have to part ways with Jaylen Brown, leaving a massive hole at guard.
As Brown trade rumors grow, the Boston Herald's Zack Cox suggested the Celtics target Coby White of the Charlotte Hornets in Free Agency.
"A starter in Chicago for most of his career, White thrived as a sixth man with Charlotte after being dealt at February’s trade deadline," wrote Cox. "In 21 games for the Hornets, the 6-foot-5 combo guard averaged 29.1 points, 5.7 assists and 7.7 free-throw attempts per 36 minutes while shooting 39.1% from three. White would add scoring and playmaking ability to a Celtics backcourt that lacks depth behind Derrick White and Payton Pritchard."
Whether Brown is traded or not, White would be a solid addition to the Celtics. He may not cost as much as other guards on the market, either, and he has seven seasons of NBA experience.
In 2024, he averaged a career high of 20.4 points with the Chicago Bulls. He played in just 50 games last season and was not as effective a scorer. However, he still proved to be an asset for the Hornets.
