Champions Emerge at 2026 South Dakota High School Track and Field Championships
May 30—SIOUX FALLS — The South Dakota high school track and field championships, held from May 28-30 at Howard Wood Field, concluded with six teams capturing titles and 120 athletes earning top honors across various events. This year’s competition showcased the immense talent within the state's high school athletes.
In the Class AA boys division, Corde Austin from Pierre was named the field MVP, while Mikah Peters of Brandon Valley earned the track MVP distinction. SF Lincoln emerged as the dominant team, finishing first with a score of 178 points, followed by Brandon Valley with 115 points and Harrisburg with 78.5 points.
Among the standout performances, Javon Haukaas of SF Lincoln posted impressive times, winning the 100 meters in 10.51 seconds and the 200 meters in 21.41 seconds. Mikah Peters also had a remarkable showing, claiming victory in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.37 and recording a meet record in the 3,200 meters at 8:54.05.
In the relays, SF Lincoln continued their success, winning the 4x100 meters, 4x200 meters, and 4x400 meters. Their 4x200 meter team set a new meet record with a time of 1:27.18. Other notable achievements included Asher Hauert from Harrisburg winning the 110 hurdles in 14.05 seconds and Angalia Niyomwungere from SF Washington taking the triple jump title with a leap of 45-10.75 feet.
