Charles Oakley Labels Patrick Ewing a 'Coward' Amid Ongoing Feud

The rivalry between former Knicks stars Patrick Ewing and Charles Oakley has reignited, with Oakley recently referring to Ewing as a "coward." Their contentious relationship has been a topic of conversation for years, stemming from their shared history on the legendary 1990s Knicks team, known for its grit and toughness.

During their decade-long partnership, Ewing and Oakley helped lead New York to the NBA Finals in 1994. However, tensions have simmered since their playing days, with Oakley accusing Ewing of failing to take responsibility for the team's shortcomings in the playoffs. In a 2020 radio interview, he stated, "He never put us on his back like he should have because every adversity he ducked away from." Oakley characterized Ewing as "high maintenance," suggesting that Ewing's needs disrupted team chemistry.

Oakley has not shied away from criticizing Ewing's leadership skills, claiming that Ewing's individual accolades do not equate to true leadership. "If you ask 100 players, maybe one guy would say he's a leader," he stated, contrasting Ewing's legacy with that of current Knicks player Jalen Brunson. Their discord has been further complicated by Oakley's ongoing feud with Knicks owner James Dolan, while Ewing appeared to have reconciled with Dolan after a public spat in 2021.

On June 4, during an appearance on TMZ Sports, Oakley expressed his frustration with Ewing, calling him out for not approaching him after a game in Cleveland. "For Patrick to not be man enough to come and talk to me after having his back for 10 years, he's a coward," Oakley remarked, indicating that their relationship may be irreparable.

Both players enjoyed significant success during their time together, with Oakley earning All-Star honors and Ewing achieving Hall of Fame status. Despite their past accomplishments on the court, their personal rift continues to overshadow their shared legacy with the Knicks.
