The Dallas Cowboys and wide receiver George Pickens are in an uncertain spot after the 2026 NFL Draft.
Dallas franchise tagged Pickens earlier in the offseason, but the young receiver has yet to sign his tag, meaning he can't participate in the Cowboys' voluntary offseason workouts that begin in May.
As a result of Pickens' unclear future, Dallas is adding some experience to their receiver room.
Cowboys signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys signed veteran receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year deal on Monday.
"Veteran WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling is signing a one-year deal with the Cowboys, per source," Pelissero said.
Valdes-Scantling spent the 2025 season with the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers, logging 10 games and 14 receptions.
What Valdes-Scantling brings to Cowboys
Valdes-Scantling isn't a high-level, starting-caliber receiver. However, the 31-year-old has 68 games of starting experience under his belt and a ton of playoff experience.
The NC State product won two Super Bowls during his time wth the Kansas City Chiefs, and was a solid target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, posting 687 yards in 2022.
During his tenure with the Green Bay Packers, Valdes-Scantling led the league in yards per reception (20.9) in 2020 and was a dynamic deep threat for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Now in Dallas, Valdes-Scantling will have the chance to compete for playing time and could have a larger role than expected if Pickens isn't able to take the field.
