Craig Breslow Sets the Record Straight on Marcelo Mayer Trade Rumors

On Monday, speculation emerged regarding a potential trade involving young Boston Red Sox shortstop Marcelo Mayer. However, Craig Breslow, the Chief Baseball Officer for the Red Sox, quickly dismissed these claims.

Breslow shared with Alex Speier, “I had somebody reach out to me and say, ‘Is it accurate to say you traded Marcelo [Mayer] to the Diamondbacks?’ There are some things that you see, and you’re like, ‘OK, that is not accurate, but I at least understand where it came from.’ And then there are things that are just blatantly false and don’t deserve a ton of attention, and this falls into that category.”

The Red Sox have reportedly been in discussions with the Arizona Diamondbacks for much of the offseason, with Arizona's standout second baseman, Ketel Marte, frequently mentioned as a target. At 32 years old, Marte is having a solid season, hitting .246 with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs.

Despite the buzz surrounding potential trades, the Red Sox have no intention of moving Mayer, whom they consider a vital part of their future. Breslow's recent remarks reinforce the team's commitment to Mayer as a cornerstone player moving forward.

This clarity from the front office is reassuring for fans, highlighting that the organization has strategic plans for its young talent.
