Last night, we sought your opinions on Javier Assad's performance, and a significant 75% of you rated him with a solid “B,” while another 19% awarded him an “A.” Now, as we shift gears, let’s enjoy some music and film discussions. You’re welcome to skip ahead if you wish!

This evening, we pay tribute to the late Abdullah Ibrahim, renowned South African jazz pianist, who passed away this week at the age of 91. Here he is performing “Cape Town Flower” in Lugano, Switzerland, back in 1999.

In film news, we revisit “Night Must Fall,” a psychological thriller from 1937 directed by Richard Thorpe. Based on Emlyn Williams's stage play, the film features a tense atmosphere and a plot that relies heavily on the characters’ poor decisions. Despite its flaws, the film showcases exceptional performances from Robert Montgomery, Rosalind Russell, and Dame May Whitty, marking her debut at the age of 72. Whitty’s portrayal as the manipulative Mrs. Bramson is particularly noteworthy, having previously received acclaim on stage.

The plot centers on Danny (Montgomery), a con artist who ingratiates himself with Mrs. Bramson and her niece Olivia (Russell). As the tension escalates, Olivia grapples with her growing attraction to Danny, despite her suspicions about his dark past. While she has opportunities to escape, her complicated feelings keep her tethered to the dangerous situation. Montgomery's performance earned him an Oscar nomination, and Whitty received a nod for her role as well. The film, despite its character-driven absurdities, remains engaging thanks to its strong cast.

As the debate continues among baseball aficionados regarding the title of “greatest living player,” many consider Barry Bonds, godson of the late Willie Mays, as a frontrunner. However, the controversy surrounding Bonds makes this title a complex discussion.
